How about: makes the mob less likely to switch away from you.
I thought of this too (this is similar to how EQ does their 'taunt' skill). I'm not sure if that fits the brawling theme (the name does though). Perhaps if you made a fighting stance. Like 'taunting stance' is an offensive fighting stance in which it takes a mob some skillcheck to switch off of you, and has a chance of making them switch to you if you arent already tanking.
Already prototyped this for monks. It turned out to be very hard to code, contrary to what I would have thought.
Bummer. I wonder -- maybe if it was just a single move? Or similar to an AOE spell or something. I'm sure there are other ways to solve the "Im fighting tons of little weak-ass mobs" problem I haven't considered too. This will need some thought I guess.
Not bad. Could also have it shake up the opponent a bit and/or have bystander mobs flee.
Funny you should mention. I actually have "also can cause fear effect on very relatively weak opponents" in my notes and I forgot to copy it over. Also my notes mention a zone-wide emote. And the crit kill with the wording 'warcry' might be restrung so as not to confuse. Maybe not. When I was writing this out I was getting tired of all that typing.
Some sort of disarm resistance skill. Pommel strike, generic attack move.
Couple of fencing moves I'm familiar with from my younger swashbuckling days: Balestra, generic attack move (a quick hop or skip followed by a lunge). Fleche, sort of like charge, but on foot.
Actually I wanted disarm to also augment your disarm defense. So maybe it gives you up to a a 50% bonus in disarm defense, and this also allows you to train it up when being disarmed.
Yeah any additions w/the Duelist stuff are welcome. I have a friend who did fencing in college, maybe I should track him down for more ideas too. Coming up with the proper themed move is almost harder than the mechanics/effect of the move.
alota those skill names seem to come from Diablo 2..
Hmm I never played D2, but I did play D1. Of course, I play a bit of D&D 2, 3.0, 3.1, and I've played alot of other computer RPGs (MMO or otherwise). Maybe something subliminally slipped in. Of course, most of the names are pretty generic (except Whirlwind attack is from D&D).
